The new generation Peugeot 408 version 2023, which is a completely new model, was introduced today. This car has a fastback design that is currently only used by regular Peugeot 308 hatchbacks and Peugeot 3008 SUVs.

The new-generation Peugeot 408 is set to launch in the UK at the start of the new year with a £43,250 exclusive as 50 models and will be sold as a 222bhp plug-in hybrid version. It’s just one of three engines offered with the 408 range.

This car model uses the EMP2 308 modular feature. The Peugeot 408 is 4690mm long and 1480mm tall, making it 440mm longer and 40mm taller than the 308. It can be said that this amount is satisfactory here. It took seven years to make this product because at first it was considered a bit disruptive, but it managed to attract the attention of the regulatory people.

In this car, the latest i-Cockpit design is used, such as a digital screen and a 10.0-inch touch screen that can be connected to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Car manufacturers have also used extensive storage space for it.

It is supposed that three engines will be offered from the beginning of this car; Two plug-in hybrid models that match the 308 PHEV’s electric range at 40 miles, and a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 128 horsepower. All of these can be connected to an automatic transmission. By the end of 2023, the gasoline engine will be replaced by a hybrid unit, and although no date has been set, an e-408 electric motor is expected to follow.

Peugeot hopes to attract more enthusiasts with the launch of the Peugeot 408 as it is priced between the 308 and 3008 (the latter starting at £33,225), although it is more similar in length to the 508 sedan.

“Our customers may want more space but the same driving experience, or they may want a different car with a better driving experience, or they may want more modern sedans,” said Everly Bresson, 408 product manager. The common point of all these people is that they look for cars with an open mind and they are not attracted only by the performance of the car.

No danger threatens 508

The Peugeot 408 is more likely to compete with classic sedans than SUVs, so there is no risk for the 508. Phil York, Peugeot’s head of marketing, believes that the 508 is an icon for the brand. It is considered a very high level product.
