The Mobile World Congress in Las Vegas is underway, and Razer, along with Qualcomm and Verizon, announced a new Android-based gaming console. The device will be officially announced at RazerCon on October 15th, but Razer has provided a brief introduction.
As the name suggests, the Razer Edge 5G will offer 5G connectivity, making it the first handheld gaming console of its kind. The device can run games without an internet connection because it’s powered by the Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 processor, which was introduced last year alongside a developer kit made by Razer (which shares similarities with the Edge 5G).
As an Android device, you can expect the Razer Edge 5G to run all the mobile games available on the Google Play Store, though it also runs cloud gaming services and game streaming from your PC or console. The Edge 5G has two thumbsticks, a D-pad, as well as several buttons on the side of the display while the back has several adaptive triggers.
Based on the Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 developer kit that was mostly available to developers last year, the Razer Edge 5G is likely to feature a 6.65-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, exclusive Adreno GPU, active cooling, and a 6000mAh battery. mAh is equipped. The device is also expected to offer a 1080P webcam for live streaming and connect to a 4K TV or monitor, augmented reality and virtual reality headsets via USB-C with DisplayPort support.
