OmniVision has unveiled the first 4K HDR camera for laptops

OmniVision Group has announced that it will offer 4K HDR camera modules for laptops for the first time. OV08X is the only imaging sensor in the industry with 9.2 megapixel resolution and 0.7 micron pixels. This sensor can be used for the next generation of notebooks with a slimmer and lighter design.

According to the official statement issued, the OV08X sensor can be used in laptops equipped with screens with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The vertical size of this sensor is only 4 mm. Akim Chen; The product specialist at OmniVision Group explained: “From now on, users will not need to use external webcams in order to make high-quality video calls. The OV08X imaging sensor enables designers of high-end and flagship laptops to use high-quality 4K cameras to produce the slimmest devices.”

The OV08X imaging sensor supports Auto Framing. This feature keeps the user’s position in the center of the screen while making a video call and the field of view can be adjusted. In addition, this sensor also supports the ability to detect human presence and provides users with features such as automatic locking and contactless login.

This sensor is equipped with a low-power image signal processor (ISP) and supports light-sensitive and ultra-low-power modes in order to maximize battery charging time. This sensor is designed based on the proprietary crystal composite technology of the company called OMNIVISION PureCel Plus-S and has the ability to shoot 4K videos at 30 frames per second. Mass production of this sensor will begin in December 2022.
