How to Improve Windows 10 Battery Life?

Battery life and it’s charging are very important for PC users, therefore, we are going to show you how to improve Windows 10 battery life.

In recent years, Windows 10-based PCs have been improving their energy consumption and are better able to perform daily tasks with a single battery charge. In fact, users are still not confidently turning away from fixed power supplies for laptops. Therefore, we are suggesting the following simple and effective tips to maximize your Windows 10 battery life.

1. Create and Save a Report of Battery

First of all, Windows 10 has a command-line tool that provides a detailed report with complete information on battery usage on the current device. This information is stored as an HTML file and can be viewed with a web browser. Battery reports include tables and charts that provide the user with recent usage, usage history, battery capacity over time, and battery life prediction. Even if the user does not have the in-depth technical knowledge, the report can provide useful information.

To create a battery report file, you must first run Command Prompt on Windows. To do this, press Windows + R keys and Windows Run box will be opened. Then, type cmd and press the Enter key. In the Command Prompt window, type the following lines and press the Enter key between them.

cd %temp%

powercfg /batteryreport

The above command creates a battery performance report and saves it in the user’s current Temp folder. You can open the corresponding file from the same command line window. Type the file name, battery-report.html, and press the Enter button.

Each time you create a new battery performance report, the previous version is replaced with a new report. Information with an old history is also stored on average for a week or a month. To save multiple files and compare daily information, you can copy each report file from the original folder and save it in a separate folder under another name.

2. CHECK YOUR BATTERY’S CURRENT CAPACITY

The capacity of the Laptop’s battery is measured in milliwatts (mWh). By recharging and discharging the battery, its capacity decreases steadily. Ultimately, capacity reductions reach a level that can only be used by connecting the laptop directly to the power supply. The Installed Batteries section at the top of the report file shows the capacity designed for each of the laptops in addition to the current maximum capacity. Another section, Battery Capacity History, shows a history of capacity changes over time.

Most experts say the best way to extend battery life is to avoid using or keeping it in high-temperature environments. Current Batteries unlike old batteries do not make you worried about incomplete charging cycles. Of course, it is best to have a full charge and discharge cycle once a month.

3. ANALYZE YOUR OBSERVED USAGE OVERTIME

Computer manufacturers and independent experts have never had a fixed standard for measuring battery life to use it for comparing the performance of multiple devices. Measurement factors usually include charging calculations in functions such as viewing a video or browsing web pages or similar applications.

Moreover, current factors are not bad for calculating battery life, but the user tends to be aware of the impact of his or her own usage on battery charging. Such an effect is highly dependent on the applications used, the quality of the network connection, and many other variables. Given these, measuring actual usage is more important than general benchmarking. For details on battery usage, see the usage report that you created in the previous section. In the Battery Usage section, you can see a chart of the last three days of battery usage.

The graph that you see in the Battery Log file shows the usage time on the horizontal axis and the charge and discharge activity on the vertical axis (upward lines for charging and downwards for discharging). The chart below shows details of any user changes such as using Connected Standby or normal battery usage.

moreover, to interpret battery usage data, you need to have detailed activity information for each time period. For example, you might see part of the chart showing seven percent of battery life within an hour, and another part with the same time period. Knowing the details of the activities in these courses will help you to compare the usage of different apps and services.

A lot of people wanna know how to improve Windows 10 battery life but you may also want to know how to speed up Windows 10.

4. ESTIMATE YOUR AVERAGE BATTERY LIFE

Battery Life Estimates is a part of battery report file which provides battery life forecasts and estimates. In this section, you can see how much the battery is charging over a period based on current usage. The prediction of Windows in this section is almost real and accurate. By reading the stats you will find out how much your battery is consumed based on the activity performed in each period.

The Battery Life Predictor despite the valuable data provided to the user, sometimes reports are not accurate enough and cannot always be relied upon. These same incorrect estimates, which rarely happen, make it impossible to have complete confidence in the battery life calculation.

5. RECOGNIZE WHICH APPS ARE AFFECTING YOUR BATTERY LIFE

Battery reporting is not the only useful Windows 10 system information. The operating system can give you another report that provides detailed information on the battery usage of each application. Firstly, go to Settings> System> battery to find this information and then click on the ‘See Which Apps Are Affecting Your Battery Life section’. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to filter the results. Using filters, you can see how much battery life has been used in the past 6 or 24 hours or last week.

Windows Report based on single apps provides complete information about apps that have more than normal battery usage. Therefore, you can use these details to optimize application usage or to save power for each application.

6. ADJUST POWER AND SLEEP SETTINGS

It’s important to know how to use a battery in Windows 10. It can also control power consumption with additional information. To access the general power consumption settings, go to Settings> System> Power & Sleep. In this section you can specify the time period for shutting down the display or switching the system to Sleep mode. Settings are provided for both battery consumption and power supply. Using this method you can improve your Windows 10 battery life magnificently.

The display is one of the most widely consumed parts of modern computers. So shutting it down as quickly as possible is one of the most important approaches to saving energy. You can also use Sleep Mode for shorter periods of time, as modern processors have the ability to detect the state properly and keep things moving quickly. You can click the Additional Power Settings small link to access more power settings. It opens with a traditional look similar to Windows 7 and offers options such as operating the system after you press the power button or close the laptop.

7. ENABLE HIBERNATION

Moreover, when it comes to daily operation, activating Sleep mode and continuing to work in the time required, it seems like the right strategy. On the other hand, if you plan to stay away from your computer for a few hours, the Hibernate option will work. Putting the laptop to sleep in the long run can sometimes lead to battery consumption and even laptop warming up. By activating Hibernate, the current state of the system is stored in a file and the computer is shut down. As a result, no battery consumption occurs. When you restart the system, Windows will retrieve the contents of the memory from that file and continue from the same point.

After activating the Hibernation option, an option to enter this mode can be activated after a specified time from Sleep mode. In the Power Options section of the Control Panel, click Change When the Computer Sleeps and then Change Advanced Power Settings. Then open the Sleep menu to enter settings in this section. In addition, you can set the Hibernate mode with options such as closing the laptop or pressing the power button. You can enable Hibernation option in Windows with the following command if it’s not so:

Powercfg /h

8. LEARN HOW TO SHUTDOWN QUICKLY

You wanna know how to improve Windows 10 battery life then you need to learn how to shutdown quickly. Users often enter Connected Standby from battery-powered mode by closing the laptop or pressing the power button or using the Power menu. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to use the Shutdown command. You can use the command line or the Run section or even Windows search to use the command. The Shutdown command has many options, and you can learn about its options and capabilities by following the command line:

Shutdown /?

Some of the Shutdown Reference Commands are of great use to you and can be used as a list of quick commands. For example, Shutdown / r is used to reload after a specified period and Shutdown / h is used to quickly enter Hibernate mode.

9. USE THE BATTERY SAVER OPTION

The next step to improve Windows 10 battery life is to use the battery saver option. Windows 10 has a feature called Battery Saver that stops most battery-powered activities quickly. For example, notifications and background activity for some apps will be disabled. Enabling power saving mode increases the battery charge significantly and also disables distractions such as app notifications.

Windows 10 setting activates Power saving mode by default when the battery is less than 20%. You can use Settings> System> Battery to change this option. Don’t forget that it also enables the Lower Screen Brightness option. The brightness of the display plays an important role in the battery life of the device, and lowering it will definitely lead to a higher charge.

There is also a path besides the battery settings to enable power saving mode. Clicking on the Battery Icon in the lower-right corner of the notification bar opens a small window that gives you the Battery Saver option. Activate battery saver mode with the green leaf mark on the battery icon. To disable these settings, try the same path again. Battery saving mode is automatically deactivated when connected to the power supply.

Moreover, the solutions above teach a step-by-step process for understanding power consumption in Windows, calculating battery life, and activities to save more battery life. The apps used by each user are definitely unique and require unique approaches from the same user to optimize battery life. Finally, regular use of the battery and observing some safety considerations can lead to a relatively longer life for the power storage unit on the mobile computer.
