With the introduction of Windows 11 and the release of the first beta versions of it, it seems that the world’s largest software company still does not intend to add this much-anticipated and common feature to its operating system natively. This has frustrated many loyal Windows users and led them to search for an alternative solution. Files is a third-party application that can compensate for this shortcoming of Microsoft’s original file explorer.

Files is not one of the default programs for Windows and was developed by a person named Yair Aichenbaum. This program was introduced to the public in June 2020 and has been available for testing since a year ago. Although it is not a complete replacement for the original Microsoft File Explorer, it is very useful in doing some things.

Files has received several updates since its introduction, and is now fully compatible with Windows 11 thanks to its new icons and user interface design. This program also run on Windows 10; But running it in Windows 11, along with the original Microsoft File Explorer, shows the similarities between the two programs. The figure above shows the user space of the beta version of this program.

Files supports touch capabilities and performs well on any scale, whether tablet or desktop. Although it does not have some of the features of Microsoft File Explorer, the ability to do some things has made Files a unique application, and it can even be said that it works better on Windows tablets than the original version of Microsoft.

The most important advantage of Files over Microsoft File Explorer is the support of various tabs. As you can see above, this program has the ability to drag and drop, and you do not need to open a new window to browse files and folders, or just hold the mouse over them to open folders and tabs.

By re-emphasizing the importance of Windows 11’s touch capabilities, more and more people will want to use the Surface Pro 7 or Surface Pro X as a tablet; Therefore, it would be useful to have File Explorer that supports touch capability in addition to some special features.
