Apple retired the iPhone 6!

Apple today updated its list of legacy products to include the iPhone 6, as it’s now been more than five years since the device was last on sale. The iPhone 6 sold exceptionally well, so the timing of its addition to this list is a bit unexpected.

The iPhone 6 was released in September 2014 alongside the iPhone 6 Plus. It was also sold as a cheaper option in 2015 after the release of the iPhone 6s and then discontinued in 2016 with the release of the iPhone 7. In 2017, it was re-introduced as a budget iPhone in select countries, and sales continued until September 2018.

iPhone 6 Plus, the brother of iPhone 6, was also added to the old list earlier this year. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were famous for being the first devices to support Apple Pay and the first models Apple offered in multiple sizes. Apple has since continued its strategy of offering iPhones in multiple sizes.

The list of legacy products shows devices that Apple stopped distributing for sale more than five years ago and less than seven years ago. Apple offers service and parts for older devices for up to 7 years by law, but repairs are subject to parts availability.

Obsolete products are products that Apple stopped distributing for sale more than seven years ago. All hardware services are discontinued for obsolete products, with the exception of Mac notebooks, which are only eligible for battery repair.

In addition to adding the iPhone 6 to Apple’s legacy list, the company has moved the 2012 iPod nano 7 and fifth-generation iPod touch from the legacy list to the obsolete list, while the 2015 iPod nano models are now listed as obsolete. The fourth generation iPod shuffle was moved to the obsolete list from 2012, and the 2015 version is now listed as obsolete.

In your opinion, how long is the life of Apple products? Does it accompany users over the years?
